Speaker: It's true that the things that we love are the things we fight for. So, when I think of Ohio, the film cameras in my mind picture a state shaped like a heart. With blood vessel roads that push people past parks and pastures, under clear or cloudy skies. I'll always find comfort in the company of Cleveland. When I think of my hometown, I remember a community that fundraised for my college, a city that took a chance on humble beginnings and massive dreams. If the things we love are the things we fight for, I find it amazing how many people have fought to push me farther. I've seen people pray that the hope in my eyes wouldn't extinguish. My city lifted my shoulders off concrete until my local voice became global, and now I see that same spark in the eyes of younger people around me. So to pass torches from lake to river, museum to monument, hall of fame to open road, and scenic route to city block is what I'm built to do. We are more than just the birthplace of aviation, but the birth of the first feet to walk the moon. We are the rhythm that coined rock and roll. The orchestra that echoes through Severance's Hall's. We connect Lake Erie to Ohio's river and feed it miles of metro parks. And in the 11 million faces, our stories paint pictures no artists can record. And when I came back home, my hope was to turn my eyes into cameras to capture it fully. Its history, its challenges, its stories, its people. I want our voices to continue changing culture worldwide. And in Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Akron, Toledo, and every nook and cranny, crease and corner of each county, this land is our land. This fight is our fight, and this story deserves to be told. So as long as my eyes become cameras, when I see this state shaped like a heart, I will tell its stories.

Cleveland, Ohio is home to the famous Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and it is a must-visit. Here you’ll see some of the most impressive collections of music memorabilia, including John Lennon’s guitar! The Rock Hall also showcases a number of temporary, traveling installations throughout the year, as well as live music concerts. The Cleveland Museum of Art is another fantastic museum, home to more than 61,000 works of art spanning 6,000 years! Here you can find diverse works of art from paintings by Monet to Grecian statues to photographs of Marilyn Monroe. The museum builds, preserves, studies, and shares its outstanding collections of art from all periods and parts of the world.

You could carve an entire day out of visiting Cleveland’s West Side Market. The indoor/outdoor market, which has been around for more than a century, is conveniently surrounded by the city’s hottest restaurants and breweries.

The Thurman Cafe has been a landmark in German Village since 1942. Opened by Nick Suclescy and passed on through the family, the restaurant has remained true to its roots. This restaurant is known for its oversized burgers and excessive toppings. Foodies are sure to enjoy spots all across the state.

For all donut (and beer) lovers out there you must stop by Brewnuts. All the doughnuts are made by hand in small batches, using no machines, and all have beer as an ingredient.

Boaters, fishermen and others who’d rather spend their days outdoors will get exactly what they want thanks to the many marinas of Lake Erie. If you’re looking for outdoor activities East Fork State Park in Bethel, is one of Ohio’s largest state parks. Lakes, hills and rivers are the backdrops for more than 90 miles of hiking trails, all marked easy to moderate.
