Route 66 and Beyond

The Iconic American Road Trip

More than just highways, here, you'll find the spirit of the open road. Considered by many to be the original road trip, Route 66 traverses the USA’s heartland – across fields in the Midwest, over the Mississippi River and through enchanting deserts in the Southwest toward the Pacific Ocean. Officially recognized in 1926 as U.S. Highway 66, the original route traversed more than 3,800 kilometers through Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Today, you can still travel much of the fabled route, no matter where you begin your journey. Immerse yourself in Americana and become part of the legendary tradition of American road trips.
