There’s no better place to get an authentic feel for the energy of San Juan than La Placita. This outdoor plaza is the spot to be on weekend nights, and it’s the place you’re most likely to find people dancing salsa in the streets. Casa Melaza Rum Boutique

If dancing isn’t your thing maybe rum is. Casa Melaza is a tasting bar where you can learn about various rums (something Puerto Rico produces a lot of) and have a relaxing time doing it. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, so even if you’re not the biggest rum fan, you’ll still be able to enjoy drinking and relaxing in one of Puerto Rico’s coziest specialty bars.

A great dive bar can be hard to find--but not in San Juan. El Batey is one the town’s best, most intimate such haunts, with atmosphere and no-nonsense drinks.
